Regulation

Art.1 – PIANO COMPETITION
The “Gianni Rugginenti” International Piano Competition was created with the aim of enhancing small and young pianists by highlighting their talent, preparation and giving them the opportunity to compete and to enrich their musical growth.
The 1st edition of the International Piano Competition will take place in person in Gallarate on 19 and 20 October 2024.
 
Art.2 – PERIOD
The “Gianni Rugginenti” International Piano Competition will take place from 19th to 20th October 2024 and is open to all pianists and composers without age limits (pianists) and 35 years (composers).

Art. 4 – CATEGORIES
 
SECTION I – SOLO PIANO
“PICCOLE MANI” category – Pianists born in 2018.
Free program lasting a maximum of 2 minutes with a compulsory piece by Maria Vacca.
 
Category  A  –  Pianists born in 2016, 2017.
Free program lasting a maximum of 4 minutes with a compulsory piece by Maria Vacca.
 
Category B – Pianists born in 2014, 2015.
Free program lasting a maximum of 6 minutes with a compulsory piece by Maria Vacca.
 
Category  C  – Pianists born in 2011, 2012, 2013.
Free program lasting a maximum of 8 minutes with a compulsory piece by Maria Vacca.
 
Category  D  – Pianists born in 2008, 2009, 2010.
Free program lasting a maximum of 10 minutes with a compulsory piece by Maria Vacca.
 
Category E – Pianists born between 2005 and 2007.
Free program lasting a maximum of 20 minutes with a piece of your choice taken from the 20th century piano repertoire.
 

 

Category F – Pianists born since 2004 without age limits.
Free program lasting a maximum of 30 minutes.
 
SECTION II – PIANO 4 HANDS
Category G “LITTLE HANDS” – Pianists born from 2016 to 2018.
Free program lasting a maximum of 4 minutes with two compulsory pieces by Maria Vacca.
 
Category H – Pianists born between 2012 and 2015.
Free program lasting a maximum of 6 minutes with two compulsory pieces by Maria Vacca.
 
Category I – Pianists born between 2008 and 2011.
Free program lasting a maximum of 15 minutes with two compulsory pieces by Maria Vacca.
 
Category L – Pianists born since 2007 without age limits.
Free program lasting a maximum of 25 minutes.
 
SECTION III – PIANO COMPOSITION FOR CHILDREN
Category M – Composers, without age limits, who will present piano pieces of a level not higher than the repertoire foreseen by the former lower completion of piano R.D. 1945/30.
The compositions may range from repertoire pieces to studies aimed at the technical-stylistic learning of students in this educational field.
The aim of the competition, in its various editions, is to create a collection of pieces that will form a volume dedicated to piano teaching in its various facets.
The pieces presented will not be tied to a precise running time.

Art.6 – COMMON RULES
It is recommended that you respect the running time established for each category.
As regards the compulsory passages, you will need to present yourself with the original book, photocopies will not be accepted.
Each participant is also given the opportunity to register for categories higher than that determined by their chronological age.
The final judgment of the jury will in any case be unquestionable.
 
Art. 7 – HEARINGS
The auditions will take place in front of the jury on 19 October 2024 in the “Sala Mozart” of the “G. Puccini” Conservatory in Gallarate.
Awards ceremony and final concert will be held on October 20th starting at 5pm in the Teatro del Popolo in Gallarate attached to the “G. Puccini” Conservatory.
 
Art. 8 – JURY
The jury is made up of musicians of clear fame on the Italian and European musical scene and will have the task, in addition to expressing an evaluation of the performances of the pieces, of generously giving opinions and advice to the pianists to better direct their study and their expectations.
Art. 9 – PRIZES
“GIANNI RUGGINENTI TROPHY” AWARD

The overall winner of the competition will receive the following prizes:

“Gianni Rugginenti” trophy handmade by “HandMade”.
Scholarships of €1500.
2 prize concerts.
diploma of 1st overall in the competition.

 

TEACHER AWARD:

The jury will award the prize offered by “HandMade” to the teacher who has reached the greatest number of awarded students.

 

CONCERT PRIZES: 

Recital to take place within the 2025/2026 Musical Season promoted and created by the Istituto Musicale Città di Rivoli “G.Balmas”.
Recital to take place within the 2025/2026 Musical Season promoted and created by “Spazio Classica“.
Recital to take place within the 2025/2026 Musical Season at the “Kaway” showroom space in Milan.

All participants will receive a participation diploma.
All participants will receive a 10% discount voucher to use for the Masterclasses.
 
Art. 10 – PIANO
For the auditions the pianists will perform with a grand piano.
 
Art. 11 – FINAL CONCERT AND AWARDS CEREMONY
The final awards concert will be held on Sunday 20 October 2024 at 5.00 pm at the Teatro del Popolo attached to the “G. Puccini” Conservatory of Gallarate. The pianists who have obtained the first overall prize in their category will be admitted to the final ceremony. Other competitors deemed worthy may be admitted to this evening at the discretion of the Commission. The pianists admitted will play a piece agreed with the jury.
For the Composers category, the winning pieces will be performed.
All performances may be freely filmed and recorded, as long as this activity does not disturb the performance itself and the competitors will not be able to claim any financial claim for the audio or video recordings relating to each phase of the competition and the final awards evening.
It will be mandatory to participate (under penalty of cancellation of the prize) in the final concert.

Art. 14 – TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION EXPENSES
Travel and accommodation expenses are borne by the competitors.
 
Art. 15 – FINAL RULES
Registration for the Competition implies full and unconditional acceptance of the rules contained in these regulations.
 
Art. 16 – PRIVACY
By completing the application, in reference and according to the terms of the European Regulation 679/2016 and the current Legislative Decree 196/2003, regarding privacy, the competitor or parent, in the case of a minor, authorizes the processing of their data for the necessary measurements. The data provided upon registration will be stored by the “New Star” cultural association of Milan, data controller, and used to send information regarding the Association itself, for publication on the official websites of the “Gianni” competition. Rugginenti” (www.concorsogiannirugginenti.it) and of Associations, Bodies, Institutions and cooperators. The provision of data, for the purposes of participation in the “Gianni Rugginenti” International Competition, is mandatory. The interested party has the right to delete and rectify his data or oppose their use.
 
Art. 17 – USE OF NAME IMAGES, MATERIALS
By registering for the competition, the competitor or parent in the case of a minor, authorizes the “New Star” cultural association of Milan, pursuant to Articles 10 and 230 of the Civil Code and Articles 96 and 97 of Law 22 April 1941 nr.663 (Copyright Law), free of charge, without limits of time, space and territory, in any location, with any technical means now known or future invented, within the limits established by current Italian legislation, to: publication of photos, videos or other audiovisual materials portraying the competitor, taken by personnel authorized by the aforementioned Association, posted on the website www.concorsogiannirugginenti.com and of Associations, Bodies, Institutions, cooperators, as well as the use of the same for adaptations or reductions in any interactive and/or multimedia form, including through inclusion in online channels and/or network sites; use of the same materials during public performances, through TV broadcasts, events, publications and public screenings, diffusion on paper, optical and magnetic media; publication of photos displayed on the noticeboards of the operational offices, and/or on any other means of dissemination, in any format, for promotional, informative and informative purposes of the Institute itself; conservation of photos and videos in the association’s computer archives. Acknowledges that the “New Star” cultural association of Milan does not derive any economic gain from such dissemination; guarantees maximum seriousness in the use of images; prohibits its use in contexts that compromise the personal dignity and decorum of the interested party; The interested party has the right to oppose the use of the above by not accepting the disclaimer in the registration form.
 
The “Gianni Rugginenti” International Piano Competition was created to remember the figure of this great man and publisher who dedicated more than forty years of his life to the world of music with his work, his humanity and his dedication.
Always very attentive to the world of young artists and composers, he has always given space to the creativity of many authors.

The jury of this first edition of the “Gianni Rugginenti” International Piano Competition will be made up of prominent names from the Italian musical and teaching scene who for years, in addition to intense concert activity, have been involved in the training of young pianists with great professionalism and sensitivity, covering highly prestigious roles in various Conservatories in our country.
